第八十四屆奧斯卡電影頒獎禮已於星期一舉行,當中法國黑白默片《星光夢裡人》成為大贏家獲得最佳電影、最佳導演及最佳男主角等五個大獎,而馬田史高西斯的《雨果的巴黎奇幻歷險》亦獲得五個技術獎項。傳統而言,奧斯卡得獎電影或對票房有所幫助,今年的情況又是怎樣?
也許,我們可以從昨天跟星期一的票房變化看個究竟。
上圖所見,便是昨天票房十大電影與周一的每場人次比較。在不計算兩部奧斯卡得獎電影下,普遍電影票房差距不足兩成半,唯一例外的就是中小型發行坊間口碑持續理想的《昂山素姬》,爬升比為五成半。
相比之下,兩部奧斯卡得獎電影的爬升十分顯著,當中《雨果》爬升達六成一,而奪得主要獎項的《星光夢裡人》爬升更達到一倍。
數年前洲立發行的《2百萬奪命奇案》以小型發行於奧斯卡頒獎禮前開畫,最終奪得包括最佳電影、最佳導演等四個獎項,結果次周票房出到倒升的情況。
驟眼看來,奧斯卡電影於頒獎禮前一周開畫,可寄望獲獎幫助票房。然而,要做到這一點,先決條件是電影要在奧斯卡頒獎禮前的開畫日與周末撐得住腳。今年的兩部主要得獎電影,於周四入座不佳,到了周一已經被拿掉超過一成的場次。在這個情況下,票房爬升,能否彌補初段的偏低基數,恐怕仍要多看一段時間,才能有所定論了。

頒獎禮前一周開畫要有強勢的發行商配合(安樂和洲立正是),否則得獎後也難以維持一定埸次.
過去幾年發行商都傾向安排最大熱(2009一百萬零一夜,2010 拆彈雄心,2011皇上無話兒)於奧斯卡頒獎禮後開畫,和今年大熱電影頒獎禮前一周開畫有所不同.事實證明上述電影皆開紅盤,沒有大牌明星加持似乎較為適合頒獎禮後公映.
今年多部奧斯卡電影以鐵娘子本地最具吸引力,相信也最受惠得獎效應.

HUGO actually did not receive strong support from 洲立 after its Oscar wins. Its second week Sunday screenings was a pathetic 76 shows. 洲立 is handling distribution of 3 movies at this moment, meaning it cannot devote more resources to HUGO. 洲立 basically give up this movie after a terrible opening Thursday.
Relatively speaking, 鐵娘子 may have the widest appeal to HK audiences among recent Oscar movies, but that does not mean it will do great at the HK box office. It is not even a great movie. The movie was not even that well received in the UK market or elsewhere in the world. It only receive points for Meryl Streep’s acting, compare to universal praise for other recent UK themed pics THE KING’S SPEECH and THE QUEEN.
I think a more reasonable short term target will be for 鐵娘子 to reach HK$5 million, topping Michelle Yeoh’s THE LADY and THE QUEEN among similar female oriented biopics. Then we will see if it has any legs to sustain, but I highly doubt it.
