As they say, the city is dying.
No need to mention how we can rescue local cinema. Even if we successfully hold on to cinemagoer’s support, less and less theatres are available.
I actually think that the lack of cinemas in main city center areas should not deter people who love cinema to see their favourite movies inside a theatre. It may actually reverse the trend of how local Hong Kong people travel. I think there are still many theatres waiting to be discovered. 影藝戲院 being in 九龍灣淘大花園, to me, isn’t a terrible location. It is afterall within reach from Kowloon Bay Rail station and many other public transport, and that does not put it much worse than say THE GRAND. And I know many people could be intimidated by ELEMENTS.
High rental cost should be less of a factor in the New Territories, but that did not stop many of their cinemas to go out of business in the past decade.
Exhibitors should start a passionate campaign to rally moviegoers to support cinemagoing by patronizing other forgotten cinemas.
But if Hong Kong people are that lazy (just like majority of them refuse to take responsibility and vote in public elections) and refuse to do anything to protect their lifestyle, then this city truly is dying!
