隨著暑期完結，多部非特大製作的電影陸續開畫，昨天便有六部電影開畫，當中半數作大型發行，不過在吸引力不及暑期大片的關係，加上暑期末的市場情緒，令全日票房只獲324萬，較上周四下跌約三分之一左右。
雖然六部電影各有自家的賣點，不過昨天票房冠軍仍由上周開畫發行工作室的《竊聽風雲2》蟬聯，在縮場不足一成下於42院映235場，結果錄得76萬，而票房跌幅只有三成七，較同期大部分電影逾六成跌幅相差一截。《竊》片票房跌幅較低，或跟其電影自上映以來口碑不俗，加上是暑期較令人期望之作有關，也為電影在累積八天後達1,090萬，且看能否於兩周映期挑戰千五萬。
新開畫電影方面，洲立發行的《天煞西部反擊戰》表現較佳，昨天於37院映205場下，錄得63萬的成績，每場人次約在52左右，當中旺角百老匯與UA朗豪坊錄得約四萬成績，但約三分之一戲院收入不足一萬。《天》片以大製作及異型作賣點，不過其西部題材在港向來都屬趕客元素，加上演員令人感覺電影偏向較年長市場，對年輕觀眾來說吸引力較低，故此票房未見突出。
同日開畫由華納發行的《邊個波士唔抵死？》首天安排於30院映158場作大型發行，不過結果首天只能錄得30萬的成績，當中值得注意的是，除旺角地區外，電影於寫字樓地區如觀塘、中環、尖沙咀、太古城及銅鑼灣表現較佳。《邊》片以上班族遇上不公平對待下如何報復為題，對於生活壓力較大的香港而言，有著一定的吸引力與同鳴，不過電影整體予人美國味濃則影響目標觀眾群，且看周末票房爬升如何。
至於其餘四部開畫電影則表現不佳，每場人次只徘徊於20水平左右。當中太陽文化投資、錢國偉執導的《戀夏戀夏戀戀下》首天於29院映118場錄得約15萬的成績，當中只有嘉禾旺角錄得逾萬成績，而寶石及嘉禾青衣只獲八百多元票房，成績比起七月初開畫《熱浪求愛戰》的23萬更差。《戀》片雖然以青春及一眾女星性感作賣點，可是整體演員吸引力欠奉，而且暑期已有《熱》片及《人約離婚後》素材相若之作，市場已出現飽和狀態，繼後票房並不樂觀。
高先發行的日本電影《鬆毛犬小威》首天安排於15院映65場，結果首天獲九萬三千的成績。《鬆》片是間中在港發行的日本動物電影類型，吸引力其實向來不高，是次雖然幾乎全部戲院放映由周慧敏及譚真一配音的粵語版，但仍未吸引觀眾，且看周末能否受惠於家庭客源。
小眾發行電影方面，驕陽發行以政治為題的《驚天告密》首天於八院映40院獲票房四萬六千。《驚》片在演員吸引力不算強，加上東歐政治題材對於普遍政治冷感的香港觀眾興趣不大，也難望有好的成績。安樂發行的《雪花秘扇》首天安排於旗下院線四家戲院各映五場，結果票房只有二萬二千，未知是否觀眾對於全智賢演出非韓國電影缺乏信心所致。
其他電影方面，霍士發行的《猿人爭霸戰：猩凶革命》昨天在縮場四成三下獲34萬成績，累積15天達1,982萬，今天將衝破二千萬。家庭客源電影方面，迪士尼的《反斗車王2》昨天映67場收18萬，累積達1,671萬，千八萬看來機會不大，而上映22天的《藍精靈》累積已達1,526萬，昨天票房只較上周四下跌三成半獲17萬，可算是較具耐力。另一方面，港片《勁抽福祿壽》在上映15天後累積達595萬，可望於今天或明天衝破六百萬大關。

It was a surprise to see such big screening cuts for《猿人爭霸戰：猩凶革命》after last weekend’s good hold. HK$23 million is still guaranteed, but it will not cross X-MEN FIRST CLASS’s final gross if it continues to lose screens.
Not sure if the arrival of 《天煞西部反擊戰》has anything to do with APES’s screen cuts, but opening to HK$630K is ok. FAST 5 afterall only opened slightly higher, but ended up closing with HK$14 million. Of course COWBOYS & ALIENS is not expected to get that high. A 15 times opening day multiplier will bring it close to HK$9.5 million.
《邊個波士唔抵死？》opening to HK$300K is decent. Thanks Ryan for letting us know the box office distribution. I guess it may see better grosses during the weekend. Right now I am forecasting it to close with 15 times its opening day and close at HK$4.5 million, but I was hoping it to do better than that, so we’ll see.
《反斗車王2》is on track to close lower than HK$18 million, as Ryan suggested, which is an eye-opener. I consider that disappointing, as the original 2D version from 2006 almost finish with HK$15 million. On the contrary, 《藍精靈》is displaying very strong legs, and may reach HK$17 million. Both movies will still trail MR POPPER’s PENGUINS, the family movie supported by Mr Shtmanhk which got screened ahead of KUNG FU PANDA 2.
The big news is that 《竊聽風雲2》delivered a great 2nd Thursday hold. Chinese language movies rarely have leggy runs, so this is good news for our industry to keep doing movies that Hong Kong want to see. I am anxious to revise my target of the movie to HK$20 million, but it really depends on whether exhibitors continue to support the movie on its 3rd week.

There are a total of 5 Hollywood family movies this summer, and so far according to Rotten Tomatoes, 藍精靈 and 反斗車王2 has the worse reviews. But worse does not mean box office will be bad. 藍精靈 is making a splash in the world-wide box office now, but it is never expected to be this big.
反斗車王2 is seriously damaging Pixar’s brand name. Both Hong Kong and North America starts out good but loses momentum horrifyingly fast, not just for Pixar/Disney standards, but for a family movie.

Are you suggesting that the movie will finish with a multiplier of 20 times its opening Thursday gross of $150K?? It is impossible.
Exhibitors will certainly cut its screens, probably giving them to 《竊聽風雲2》.
《戀夏戀夏戀戀下》at best may close with a 15 times multiplier, or $2.25 million, but even that will be an uphill battle.

Normally a box office watcher should not need to see a movie to know its potential for breaking out. For the case of 藍精靈, I was just trying to reference PINK PATHER or GARFIELD as nostalgic entertainment, and I don’t think those did particularly well in HK.
Then again, the Smurfs are much more recognizable cartoon figures, so my initial prediction of HK$12 million after its opening Thursday become too conservative. It will most likely finish with a multiplier of 18-19 times its opening day gross, which is quite impressive.
Most of the box office surprises comes from family movies, because adults can never understand their popularity if viewing it with a grown up person’s mindset.
I am happy for 藍精靈’s surprise performance, but just surprised that it can do so well competing against 《反斗車王2》.

I watched CARS from 2006, and normally I should be seeing the sequel, but I am turned off by the bad reviews. Making HK$18-19 million is never a bad amount, but CARS 2 is always expected to do well because it has 3D price premium over the 2D original.
When all other family movies of the summer did well, the pressure is on CARS 2 to do even better than it did.
I am already trying to give excuses explaining why it could not do better (other than the fact it seems not a good movie), as it is the last family movie out, but it still get 2 weeks of sneak previews, which means it almost practically debuted ahead of THE SMURFS.
In the end, CARS 2 is always expected to be the #2 family movie of Hong Kong’s summer period, and that did not happen, which is why it is disappointing in a way, despite grossing a good figure.
I am not Mr Shtmanhk. I will not sing praises to all Hollywood movies, but I will give credit when it deserves it.

Pixar has hits and misses in Hong Kong, but it is still a very reliable brand. Even when WALL E did not do too well against the original KUNG FU PANDA, it still gross over HK$10 million, a figure which many of Disney’s other non-Pixar animation titles can’t even come close.
Still, anybody here who claims that Pixar is going downhill must have some short term memory. TOY STORY 3, just from last year, already break local box office records, and I was quite vocal against its market domination last year, just as I was vigorously against TRANSFORMERS 3 dominating this year.
If you look carefully, CARS 2 opened to HK$1.2 million on its official Thursday debut, which was actually quite commendable for a family movie on a weekday which got 2 weeks of sneak previews. The only big surprise was its 2nd Thursday tumble, surprisingly hefty for family movie standards, although not sure how the sneak previews could have worsen the decline.
It is basically on relative terms that I found CARS 2 to be underperforming, but no one should write Pixar off just by one movie.

這數年Dreamworks的電影,動畫技術層面上水平其實已經進步了很多,觀眾是很清楚的,其實動畫fans最期待Dreamworks和Pixar每一年暑期都是超勁片vs超勁片的清況一觸即發地爆發起來,做就更多票房上的神話湧現,燦燦爛爛而目不睱給地展現出來.

I agree with you wholeheartedly. The good but underwhelming gross of THOR and CAPTAIN AMERICA should be studied carefully. The month of August is still performing well for Hollywood movies generally, but CAPTAIN AMERICA failing to capitalize on a weak market, opening huge (HK$1.98 million) but loosing steam in alarming fashion is quite an eye-opener.
CAPTAIN AMERICA is on track to be the first major Hollywood blockbuster in recent times not able to at least exceed a 10 times opening day multiplier if it ultimately fails to reach HK$20 million.
