周四共有五部電影開畫，不過整體吸引力而言卻不算高，加上上周開畫的3D電影票房下跌關係，令周四全日票房只達203萬，較上周四下跌兩成四，當中全部電影的每場人次在45以下，反映近期入場意欲偏低。
票房標首方面，仍由上周開畫的《綠燈俠》奪得，電影於昨天在43院映230場下錄得44萬的成績，不過若果觀乎每場人次只達21水平，卻是十大票房入座之末，反映電影只是藉票房及場次以量取勝，而電影累積八天則達810萬，且看周日能否突破千萬大關。
新開畫電影方面，兩部華語電影均採用大型發行，當中英皇發行的內地電影《建黨偉業》首天安排於38院映193場，錄得票房43萬，以千五之微屈居亞軍,不過每場人次則達37水平，比起同日各片而言算是較高。《建黨偉業》於票房分佈上於Palace apm及UA時代廣場錄得近四萬收入，比起UA朗近坊接近三萬還要高，即使是只映三場UA沙田收入達二萬二千，票房較映六場的UA太古城還要高，但大部分戲院收入則在一萬以下。《建黨偉業》雖然以標榜百多位演員演出為重點，並於宣傳上試圖吸納年輕觀眾，但其片名及內容予不少觀眾意識形態統戰味濃而拒絕觀看，在票房上存在一定局限。
相比之下，博納發行由王晶執導的《財神客棧》表現則不算理想，首天安排於30院映135場，結果只獲22萬的成績，當中只有旺角百老匯獲逾二萬收入，同區的豪華戲院收入不足四千。《財神客棧》則以兩大影帝張家輝及謝霆鋒為賣點，但是類似款式已曾相識，予人一種重拍同類型電影只為內地市場而設，加上其預告片段令觀眾提不起興趣入場，故此開畫數字也相對偏低，且看周末爬升情況如何。
安樂發行安排《末路私情》於五院映26場作小型發行，結果首天獲得票房三萬六千，每場人次而言達一般的23水平，觀乎電影在外地的評價不佳而言，有此成績算是有所交代。兩部昨天開畫的日本電影成績各異，新一發行於嘉禾旺角、MCL德福及百老匯電影中心開畫的《鐵拳浪子》首天映13場獲票房三萬五千，以近45的入場人次成是日入座最佳電影。《鐵》片由漫畫改編，並由山下智久主演，吸引不少漫畫迷首天入場，但其後勁仍有待觀察。至於泛亞發行繼續以灰砲方式上映電影，本周開畫的《SP特警：革命篇》安排於四院映13場，首天收入不足七千，除了上映為出碟而設外，看不出公映的理由。
其他電影方面，第四周上映的《變種特攻：異能第一戰》昨天於39院映144場仍收28萬，為電影累積達2,345萬，觀乎情況仍有望突破二千五百萬大關。同日開畫由華納發行的《醉爆伴郎團2》昨天映62場則收14萬，累積達1,117萬，千二萬似乎有點難度。值得一提的是，累積達4,038萬的《3D肉蒲團之極樂寶鑑》昨天於紅磡寶石戲院首度放映2D版本，結果全日五場錄得觀眾廿二名，看來不算吸引。

Looks like I was wrong about GREEN LANTERN. It is holding up much better than THOR on its 2nd Thursday, but perhaps that was because of lack of competition this weekend. With a less than 60% drop from last Thursday, it certainly can hit HK$13 million.
《財神客棧》is not getting any lucky breaks despite opening on a less crowded weekend. The actors aren’t known for opening a comedy, even though 張家輝 has been a moderate draw in the comedy genre in the early 2000s. It has limited potential for weekend surge, so if it can climb 50%, I consider that a passable performance.
《變種特攻：異能第一戰》is getting very very sturdy legs. Hong Kong market is certainly very kind to Hollywood sequels this summer.
With a much bigger mainland movie in the market, 最愛 crash and burn on its 2nd Thursday. Granted, its weekend surge was extremely weak, so this might not be a surprise. It will still hit HK$1 million, but that’s got to be a letdown considering it has two strong leading stars.
The drop for S8 驚世檔案 also is much more drastic on its 3rd Thursday (around 70%), which is a surprise given its 3rd weekend competition wasn’t strong. It will finish short of HK$10 million, which is disappointing. Looks like being 2D does not help the movie, as HK market is mainly just sequelmania.

With its bad WOM, Green Lantern could fall 85% next weekend.
Beginning of the Great Revival did somewhat poorly but it still has a chance of taking the weekend. Green Lantern’s weekend increase won’t be that much so if it has a nice weekend increase, it’ll finish at #1.
Very good drops for both X-Men and Hangover 2. Treasure Inn could take in $856,728 for the weekend. London Boulevard did better than The Conspirator’s opening day with the same amount of theaters showing.
Super 8’s drop can be attributed to losing IMAX screens. Now, it is being shared at the iSquare IMAX with Pirates 4 and X-Men (non IMAX) while it lost Megabox. Megabox is showing Pirates 4 and X-Men this weekend.
That’s also the reason why Pirates 4 is holding up well this weekend.

Since Chinese movies have waived the white flag this summer almost completely, the only thing worth discussing is whether or not the major Hollywood summer movies have disappointed. And there are a few that kind of disappointed, even though they did get decent numbers in absolute terms.
The truly exceptional box office achievers in the past two months for Hollywood movies when you measure in relative terms have been FAST FIVE , HANGOVER 2 and X-MEN FIRST CLASS. These were all sequels.
Movies that were expected to do brisk business (in relative terms, not absolute terms) but ultimately failed to impress were PIRATES 3D, THOR, GREEN LANTERN.
Movies that should have do more than decent business in absolute terms but failed to do so were SUPER 8.
Of course, there will be more positive examples of Hollywood successes once TRANSFORMERS 3 and HARRY POTTER finale debut in HK. If BRIDESMAID do about what HANGOVER did back in 2009, I consider it a decent performer. If it can reach a figure close to what LOVE AND OTHER DRUGS did, I consider it a success.

This only shows that there are still people who insist to support Chinese language movies, even bad movies. Just like in North America, there are a sizable audiences that support these so-called low brow comedies.
We need good Chinese comedies, and they just don’t get made at all. I want to watch a not so low brow one, but I have no choice.
If even these bad low brow comedies are loosing market share, then they will get run over by Hollywood comedies.
It is time for Hong Kong cinema to do strong comedies.

In my opinion, Green Lantern wasn’t expected to do big business like Superman Returns or even Thor. They scheduled a lot of films to open that week so I think the studios kind of knew that out of all the superhero films, that would be the weakest one.
I think Bridesmaids could potentially open to 3.11 million. It has gotten great reviews and the market will be pretty empty for romantic comedies. (Unless if you count Beach Spike as a romantic comedy.)
