隨著香港發行模式的改變，一般而言一部電影要上映超過五個星期已經不太容易，要長達三個月映期幾乎是「不可能的任務」。可是近期卻有一部電影，自去年十一月上映至今仍繼續上映，可算是「長映長有」。
由大衛芬查執導，以Facebook創辦人的故事為的電影《社交網絡》於去年十一月十八日開畫，可是電影早段於票房走勢不算太好，結果很快開始縮場。不過電影仍具有一定口碑，在限量之下仍繼續上映。
可是，到了聖誕和農曆年這些「大檔期」，在正常情況下不少上映多時的電影該壽終正寢之時，那是不少美國方面的影評人獎項陸續公佈，當中《社交網絡》榜上有名，也為電影「續命」帶來條件，加上在發行相關院線的支持，到了今天仍於AMC Pacific Place每天放映一場中午場次，映期不經不覺已超過九十天，前天於三十九位的一院仍有收入八百。
能上映達三個月，真的要靠天時、地利、人和了。

SOCIAL NETWORK makes the big mistake of releasing too early in North America. While its box office performance in North America is not too shabby, its Oscar momentum is already fading a lot faster than it should.
What about its HK box office performance? HK$5 million is not too shabby for a Hollywood drama, especially with no recognizable movie stars, but still, one must realize it is a lot of opportunities missed considering the following:
1. This is the followup to the director’s box office hit THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON.
2. This is a movie about the facebook founder, which is assume to have a built-in audience of facebook users, which should still somewhat appealling to HK moviegoers, but it didn’t generate the same interest as in other places.
3. Hollywood drama WALL STREET MONEY NEVER SLEEPS which opens also in Autumn here, already grossed 60% higher than SOCIAL NETWORK, meaning Hollywood dramas can go higher.
Having said all of the above, when you compare this to another drama, 127 HOURS, which has already grossed very close to HK$5 million within less than 2 weeks of on-going play, also boasting a director with Oscar pedigree coming after a major success, we know SOCIAL NETWORK is really underperforming in HK.
It is great that AMC Pacific Place is still giving this movie a chance, but obivously, we all know it deserves better treatment from the public.

不出奇，話晒是奧斯卡大熱，繼續有映期也是正常之事。此片要贏最佳影片都很「蚊」，應該是《皇上無話兒》大機會勝出。David Fincher仍有機會贏最佳導演，縱使Tom Hooper《皇上無話兒》贏了DGA，但也不排除會有第七次不同賽果。反而Aaron Sorkin則9成半贏硬最佳改編劇本。

所以早前本人指出 The King’s Speech 聲勢漸回隨時翻盤,The Social Network 奧斯卡可能陰溝翻船.
假如 The Social Network 能步 Traffic 及Brokeback Mountain 後塵連奪奧斯卡最佳導演及改編劇本,三片同失最佳影片反映奧斯卡之不足也別具意義.

以一部沒有卡士特效,充斥對白,非續集,官能刺激綽頭欠奉的劇情片來說,483萬可算超額完成夫復何求?拍得住去年最賣座劇情片 寡佬飛行日記 及 再單身遊記,各收五百多萬但各有一位大卡士.很多奧斯卡得獎的劇情片也收不到如此數目,遲些可和二三月那堆奧斯卡片再作比較.
此片DVD已推出,映期相信延至奧斯卡公佈.安樂果然有心將映期延至,以他們的能力絕對做得到.當年臥虎藏龍拿下金球立即重映,即使當時DVD已推出.

The movie opened in October, which is the normally the right time to release oscar caliber movies, so your argument is not valid. Also, Social Network was winning the awards until the four guilts started handed our theirs. The conventional wisdom is that it lost steam and peaked too early, not because it was released in October.

一個月前金球獎公佈 The Social Network 仍是 frontrunner,之後由 PGA 始形勢逆轉.
只要有翻查近年奧斯卡最佳影片公映日期,就不會口出此言.

If I did not make myself too clear, I will add more.
Of course, there are always exception to the rule. HURT LOCKER was even released in summer of 2009, and it still manages to beat UP IN THE AIR and AVATAR, both released in the last few weeks of 2009.
My take was simply that despite it is fading away for the Best Picture race, it was still able to gross $96 million in North America alone, and its world-wide box office is also quite good.
Unfortunately, its HK release date could not coincide with awards season at all. Who can honestly say they do not have great expectations for this movie, when other Oscar nominated movies released around awards season time in previous years like CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON, SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE gross north of HK$20 million? Even the AVIATOR could gross over HK$7 million, a film that does not scream wide appeal in HK.
Don’t get me wrong. I like SOCIAL NETWORK a lot, I am even hoping it can win, but I am a realist.

HK$5 million is a decent amount, sure, but what I am pointing out, was that it should be far better. Perhaps we can never expect it to go as high as other Oscar fare released during January-March.
Just like we have high expectations for Hollywood movies during CNY to put up a good fight against Chinese language movies, but they didn’t quite live up to expectations.

Of course THE SOCIAL NETWORK cannot open too further from its North American opening and wait till Oscar season to open in Hong Kong, simply because the studio was supposedly expecting big things from it. It has a quick world-wide roll out, and it is really hyped and talked about.
Therefore, I would dare to say that HK is the movie’s few underperforming markets.
