周末票房：《潛行凶間》衝破四千二百萬

秦小珍 (director of 翡翠明珠) co-directed “人間喜劇”, which was a moderate hit this year.

Unlike “Laughing Gor之變節” and “七十二家租客”, “翡翠明珠” (set in ancient China and co-produced with EEG) was made with mainland audiences in mind. So it was not unexpected its Hong Kong box office was underwhelming.

Basically both of 《一頁台北》shows were full house, because the film director is present at the end of both shows for brief Q&A sessions.

I really hope 《一頁台北》 will be a minor success. If people like Taipei, then they must see this movie. Hope it can at least gross close to HK$1.5 million when it officially opens this coming Thursday.

INCEPTION grossing HK$50 milion or over is now a no brainer. I am really impressed, but then again, please look closer how other movies fail to break the HK$20 million mark this summer compare to past few years? Both INCEPTION and TOY STORY 3 are taking advantage of market domination as well as weak competition.

《反斗奇兵3》has already proven to be an overperformer in Hong Kong. 《壞蛋獎門人》falling so behind is an eye-opener for me. There are many other film markets that can accomodate both films, in fact, in Singapore it is almost neck and neck. But not in HK!!

《全城戒備》actually managing an increase during the weekend over its disappointing debut is already quite lucky. As bad as the movie trailer was, the movie doesn’t seem to be as terrible as many posters here want us to believe. On radio and on newspapers (incl. SCMP), its review wasn’t disastrous, in fact, it was middling.

(Laughing Gor之變節)所以收逾千六萬是因為Laughing的形象深入民心加上劇本不是太差,相反(翡翠明珠)的票房仆直是由於該電影的電視劇的味道太濃,不少人本身對林峯的評價好壞參半所致和林峯本身主要不是拍電影為主.

既然和(TDK)差不多,(Inception)肯定推至6000萬水平,可是北美該片的票房和就和(TDK)好遠.

Does INCEPTION deserve its success? Sure it does. It probably should gross over HK$60 million to prove that Hong Kong audience can support smart movies.

Just show some love for Hong Kong movies too, instead of always mentioning how this and that Hollywood movie beat another HK movie at the box office. Or how this and that Hong Kong movie has flaws. Otherwise, I am seriously doubting your hidden agenda.

why only focus on toy story 3 n inception dominate the market ? good quality good box office quite normal , other films not attractive to hk ppl , that ‘s why they perform not good as those 2 films, common sense only.they still have many shows ever after showing many weeks , coz they really have market , otherwise how can the cinema allow this ? the cinemas likes making money , what ‘s wrong with that ? I don’t know why hk case must be similar as outside,each place different situation, u guys always state overseas market , it is hong kong !!!

each summer 2-5 films pass 20 million, this year 3 , quite normal quite good , good boxoffice related to film’s quality , it’s the main point.

I actually just want to focus on TOY STORY 3, and how its dominance impacted the rest of the summer movie scheduling. Ryan has already published another article regarding why TOY STORY 3 dominates in July, so Mr unreasonable, you can go search for it yourself.

I am actually quite happy with what INCEPTION is doing, as it attract movie business in normal release platform compare to TS3.

Only citing Singapore due both of us have large number of chinese population, and to highlight the fact TOY STORY 3 is able to dominate HK movie screens, but not so elsewhere.

As I do not want to veer off topic, I will refrain from showing other examples like in Taiwan.

Well, in Singapore, Shrek, Toy Story and Despicable Me collectively have a 12-weeks run up to now in which each of them enjoyed a 4-weeks run before the next one got released. Shrek was released as early as May 20.

But in HK, that’s not the case, the 3 movies were pretty much packed in a much shorter period. If these movies were released as spread out, I doubt Despicable would be such a underperformer. The distributor also ve done a poor job in differentiating the movie.
